ABOUT
Dr. Marcia Kostenuik MD CCFP BSc obtained her medical degree at the University of Toronto and has over 20 years of clinical experience across emergency medicine, family medicine, urgent care, and medical psychotherapy as well as experience as a teacher, writer and speaker. She currently has a private medical psychotherapy practice with an interest in physician health and wellness.

Dr. Kostenuik is a member of the board of directors of the Medical Psychotherapy Association of Canada and a member of the Canadian College of Family Physicians and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. She treats physician patients referred by the Physician Health Program of the Ontario Medical Association and Canadian Medical Association.

Recently, in response to requests by physicians and patients for tools to address acute stress reactions during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Kostenuik has developed a set of Psychological First Aid Tools. The tools are available on this website.
Dr. Kostenuik continues to receive requests to support her colleagues, patients, and the population as they look for help with their anxiety, fear, stress, burnout, moral fatigue, and grief as the pandemic continues. She is honoured and privileged to support physicians, medical learners, nurses, first responders, and community members in her roles as clinician, teacher, speaker, and coach.
Marcia provides free support to physicians and non-physicians through interactive online sessions and facilitates peer support for Canadian physicians and medical learners through the CMA’s Wellness Connection.
Due to ongoing requests for support, skills training, and coaching Dr. Kostenuik has developed and teaches multiple online courses and series to help physicians better manage stress, prevent and overcome burnout, improve work-life balance, and be more effective in their relationships with their children, partners, and patients. SPEAKER BIO
Dr. Marcia Kostenuik
Dr. Marcia Kostenuik MD CCFP BSc is a physician, teacher, speaker, and coach. As a medical psychotherapist and a former emergency room physician, she brings a practical approach to wellness and mental health. She created Psychological First Aid Tools for COVID-19 and facilitates peer support groups for the Canadian Medical Association. Her current clinical practice involves treating physicians suffering from burnout, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, and interpersonal difficulties. Her academic work includes teaching psychotherapy and practice management skills to medical residents. Dr. Kostenuik created and teaches online courses and series in mindfulness, meditation, parenting, stress reduction, and burnout prevention. She speaks to organizations about wellness, provides coaching in interpersonal and communication skills, and is a peer guide for the Ontario College of Family Physicians. She has been awarded the Daniel Glazier Award by the College of Family Physicians of Canada for her work in mental health and suicide prevention and is a member of the board of directors of the Medical Psychotherapy Association of Canada.
